Having got my money safely in my account, I would now change banks.

You have just had the experience of how unhelpful Santander can be when you have a small query with them and how they treat their customers with disdain.

Imagine if it had been a query on your salary being paid in, or an unauthorised payment taken from the account.
  • Santander are incredibly slow at this sort of thing, can takes 5 days to show when I last used my card.

If you do intend to switch banks, I suggest you try one of the two banks that always get over 80% satifaction ratings from their customers. They are of course "First Direct" & the Co-op Bank.

Thank you, First thing monday I plan to transfer everything elsewhere, I can't be left in such a daft situation putting in complaints everywhere chasing my own money, many thanks for those suggestions, it gives me a good start!

10 working days to credit a debit card refund?

Quicker to mint it in coinage and send it round by donkey.

Where did the payments industry go wrong? The whole thing seems to be a complete mess, and heading for a meltdown.
"It will take, five, 10, 15 years to get back to where we need to be. But it's no longer the individual banks that are in the wrong, it's the banking industry as a whole." - Steven Cooper, head of personal and business banking at Barclays, talking to Martin Lewis
