Does anyoe know how you can search for a long lost parent? I'm looking for my mum. Nobody knows anything of her - (so they say!) These are great links but only seem to be able to find deceased people.
Thanks loads though!Mummy of 3 lovely munchkins :smileyhea0 -
You have to go to the relevent record offices to find earlier records or go to
http://www.bbc.co.uk/history/familyhistory/ and use there message board for help and useful tips on getting started. Hope this helps.0 -

Ps. i would click the thanks button for ya but mine doesnt seem to work for some strange reason - i think something to do with cookies or firewall but not sure how to change it.

I managed to trace my family back to 1650's through free genealogy sites, the ones listed plus https://www.mytrees.com which you can get loads of info for free from if you're willing to trawl through page after to page looking for dates, names, etc...
But I was also lucky in the fact that my surname is quite unusual and after going back a few generations I was able to tap in to someone elses research and then someone elses, just by typing my name into google.....also found out from Google (from a local paper) that my great, great and a few more times great grandfather and sons were Luddites and were imprisoned for wrecking a threshing machine....I thought it was great, dad was a bit embarrased..LOL...This post was created in an area that may contain nuts!0 -
