Sorry you thought it was rubbish but with Ancestry and the free https://www.familysearch.org I have managed to trace my family back as far as the early 1700s0

You must try harder :rotfl: :rotfl:irisrose wrote:I have managed to trace my family back as far as the early 1700s
My OH has gone back to 1416 on my tree.
If you know what your looking for and have educated guesses at times you can find lots of details.
Good luck to anyone who is searching for their ancestors.0 -

hi just wanted to let you know that i have as well0 -
I have also researched my husbands family back as far as 1500 but did not use Ancestry to get that far back so I did not bother to mention that. Very difficult to get further back than the late 1600s early 1700s, but it is possible.0

Can those of you who got back much earlier please share tips on how to go beyond when common records were kept?0 -

mainly familysearch.org but also ancestry and genes reunited.
had good luck with links from children born in 1700's to their parents to grandparents and also had other people contact us (my 3rd cousin twice removed sort of thing) who had a common link.
Warning for people about to start, it can become compulsive.
