Thanks, these ideas are great.
I often do them pasta, so they are a bit fed up. They complain that everything I cook as tomato in it (my sister says to them 'I bet auntie has made something with tomato in it').0 -

Pasta makes sense as it can sit in the store cupboard. Carbonara has no tomato, or alfredo nor a plethora of less common ways t eat pasta. DH (Italian) likes to have broccoli steamed above the pasta everynow and again. Very simple. No tomato!0 -

I'm sorry that is sooooooo rude - yo are feeding her and her family for nothing how dare she criticise it to the kids. After hearing that I'd be inclined to ask her to pick up a takeway on the way over!People seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

She wasn't being rude and nor was I offended. When they do come, I tend to make a lot of things with tomato bases - spag bol, pasta sauces, shepherds pie and she started to joke with them about it. I think they just want something different, which is why I asked for some new ideas.0 -
macaroni cheese with vegetables? boil pasta and cauli/broccoli/leeks/peas... whatever veg you have around! whilst making up a cheese sauce, combine, top with cheese and whack under the grill for five mins.Living cheap in central London :rotfl:0

You could keep some part baked baguettes in and fill with hot fillings such as sausage, cheese and bacon etc. Serve with hm wedges
Freeze some hm soup and serve with bread/baguettes
Quick frittata - fry onions and veg (peas, tomatoes or whatever) then add whisked eggs and pop in oven for 20 mins. Could do with cheese and bacon instead. If there is time you can add crushed boiled potatoes into this mix before baking - its really yummy and makes it go further!!
Pasta ( as mentioned )
Beans/cheese/mushrooms/egg on toast (not all at once lol)

How about some pizza bases in the freezer if you've got space? You could top them with whatever was handy in the fridge/cupboard?0
