Hi,
I am a lurker in this part of the site and more into freebies, but also into charity work, so this is the ultimate charity work. This is the charity Brad Pitt was recently pictured working for.
Heres the website: http://www.habitatforhumanity.org.uk/lea_faqs.htm
Anyways, I am a teaching assistant at a college in Salford and have 'volunteered' to go to with some of the students. This is we have to raise more than £1500 before next summer, we are going in the Summer Holidays.
This is to cover things like flights, transport and accomodation, whilst there but also includes a £350 donation to the charity.
In the letter given it suggests putting away £25 per week to raise £800 towards the trip (it is not an option as we are in the middle of buying a house, and our pay will be covering that)
Ask you place of work to sponsor you (viable, with so many students etc)
Ask family and friends (again another viable option, I was also thinking of going back to my old school and asking them)
I was also thinking of a) getting a local paper to cover it
b) the usual raffles etc and see if national companies will donate prizes
c)getting involved with the college One World Week
BUT I really want some unusual and funky ways of raising money that will catch people eye.
I was thinking of getting my hair shaved off in college (it has a hair dressing salon)
Any suggestions ?!?!?!?!?!
Thanks in advance
Louise

When the weather's a bit warmer, could you 'build your own' shelter and be sponsored to sleep in it? You could maybe get people to 'buy' a tarpaulin for £X, ropes and planks for other amounts, then be sponsored to sleep in it.
That may be a really naff idea, but it's the best I can do right now ...Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Personally Sue I think that's a fab idea. Seriously, it's pretty magic when you think about it.for more info check out www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk . You'll find me there.
New Year's Resolution: Post less unnecessary posts. (and that was 2007)
yes, I realise I may appear cold and heartless a lot of the time.0 -
Sounds like a great idea, one to plan, as I wonder about the security in Salford!
My next step is to write to some companies, we have a deadline date of December to get our deposits in so thought this is quick and easy.
can anyone suggest companies to approach for donations to our college fund? I have the obvious, plus companies my family work for
It is to fund pupils from a deprived area of Salford to go and volunteer in Africa. They would be building houses in kenya or uganda for those how have poor housing, often living in shacks. The sign of a wasted life is a tidy house, Welcome to the chaos!0 -
