problems are as follow
pc clock keeps restting to 0000 every time i switch on
the windows wont let me restore to any point
it wont connect to internet on firefox or IE
on windows startup a strange graphic with the words MICRO START INTERNATIONAL
together with the error
CMOS SETTINGS WRONG
and
CMOS DATE TIME NOT SET
this messge is on;ly there fleetingly and then the pc starts up windows fine
tried starting in safe mode but it comes up will a whole screenful of partitioning commands !- after telling me that CMOS settings are wrong
then it freezes almost as if the virus wonbt let it start in sfaer mode as it knmows that i will restore to another point??
its never done this before and ive been virus free up to this point
any suggestions gratefully received

Sounds more like the battery on the motherboard is dead, and not holding the CMOS (BIOS) configuration. Micro Star International (MSI) will probably be the motherboard manufacturer.
You will need to replace the battery, and configure the BIOS with the correct settings.0 -
Vuruses can become part of the system restore set, if possible, try malwarebytes antimalware
http://filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/
and / or
Superantispyware

Another option is to use a rescue disc to scan the system before Windows loads, there are a number of them, here is a link to one.

Depending on the age of the computer, the motherboard battery if in need of replacement would be unable to retain clock settings etc0 -
thanks for your replies people- will look into these solutions
still cant work out why it wont connect to the internet - or system restore
but will keep trying different things
cheers

but will keep trying different things
But first renew the CMOS battery as already advised.Move along, nothing to see.0 -
Yup, as soon as you posted about the time being wrong that's when I thought it might be the CMOS battery, so agree with that. The lack of system restore often can point to the existence of a virus, but in this case I'd replace the CMOS battery (couple of quid from Maplin, probably about £5 these days), and it's simple to clip the old one out and a new one in). That should sort the time problem out, and it might sort the System Restore issue.
If it doesn't I'd say there's a reasonable chance you have a virus as well, but definitely get that CMOS battery replaced.0 -
cheers folks will look at the battery first
and will hopefully sort the problem0 -
The knock-on of the battery problem could easily be confusion over system time, so all the restore points would appear in the future and so not recognised...or something like that. Get the hardware working, then we can look at the software...
I just want to say, the quality of technical support in this forum is VERY HIGH, well above average. That's it, just wanted to say it :-)0 -
yes its top class - well done everyone !:T0
