Hi all..
I am looking to take a trip to Poland next year, I have used the search facility and read some great advice on places to visit etc..
Have any of you been on an organised tour rather than making your own arrangements for hotels, flights etc..?
I'm not very well travelled and think I would find it a bit daunting to 'go it alone' so to speak!..
Would like to visit Auschwitz and stay in the Krakow area.. Have seen a few organised tours in the past, but now I'm interested I can't find the details again!.. typical :-)
Would be grateful for any suggestions or advice..
thanks

I saved this after someone(cant remember who it was) mentioned this company on another post.
You can book your day trips to Auschwitz etc through this company.

Go on your own. Bus from bus station 10 zloty each (I think). Train faster but make sure you get the 10.00am train - next one not until 1.30pm. No time limit on your visit, except the last bus from Auswicz ieaves at 6.15pm. Don't know about the last train. Much more fun 'going it alone' I think. Entrance to Auswicz is free, but do take the tour. Its well worth the money. If you are there early you will still have time after the tour to go around again on your own to see other things you will have missed.
Also find the minibus that goes direct to the Salt Mines at 5 zloty per couple each way. Much cheaper than a coach tour and they run all day every 10 minutes.
Enjoy this lovely city.0 -
How about doing it half and half? I love these apartments in Krakow http://www.grodzka.net.pl/ They are right on the main square and the staff are really helpful. You can book everything through email (and in English). They'll pick you up from the airport for about £10-ish and they also run a tour company from the office. You get a slightly better deal on the tours if you are a guest. When I had my loft converted back into a loft, the neighbours came around and scoffed, and called me retro.0

Hi, yes, I would be quite weary of travelling to Krakow during the Easter Period. In my experience most things will shut down. You should try this accommodation as well. They were extreemely good value. http://www.krakow-apartments.biz0 -
while we're on the polish topic ... my friend is talking about driving to krakow (poland) from the uk ..ferry from dover to dunkerque.. then driving to poland. Does anyone have any experience of doin this? ... or does anyone think its a bad idea! ... ."Do not look back and grieve over the past, for it is gone, and do not be troubled about the future, for it has yet to come. You've got to do it yourself, you see soooo much more of what YOU want and not some bloke or bird driving the bus or commentating on the tour.
We went Easter last year. Flew on Good Friday and there was no problems whatsoever. Also flew on Easter Monday between Gdansk and Krakow (didn't fancy the many hours on the train) and there was no problem. The only day things had pretty much shutdown was on the Sunday, however the trains were running as we had a day out in Sopot and Gdinia from Gdansk. Eevryone in Sopot were walking about in their best clothes, suits the lot!
