Refused 2 cards applications with perfect 999 score??

Hi Folks.

I applied for the virgin card today to transfer a couple of balances and keep my interest at 0%. I didnt realise they were part of MBNA so when I was rejected I assumed, after finding this out, that it was the reason.

So, I applied for the Tesco one and was rejected as well...

I have a perfect credit score according to Credit Expert, 999.

I have never missed a payment on anything for as long as I can remember and I earn a decent chunk of cash (take home over 4k per month). I won my own home with some equity, have a low mortgage thanks to the interest rate, I'm married and I usually get accepted straight away for these things.

Is it because I've jumped a few times over the last couple of years?

Really annoying, any thoughts would be appreciated. One of my cards has actually offered me a further balance transfer at 0% so it's not the end of the world, but I already have a balance of about 1300 on that card that isnt interest free so I wanted to transfer that off.

Cheers

With a score of 999 can't you ask Experian for a credit card or loan mate?

Experian don't do credit so it's pointless asking them for your score.
They've ripped you off for a number that means nothing.

    Have you moved recently.
    If your available credit high?
Is your credit used maxed out compared with available credit?
Do you pay no ineterst at all?
Have a umbr of searches lately?

Could be any of the above.

Also could be an error of your credit report.
Have you checked both Experian and Equifax credit reports recently?
I recomend the £2 statutory reports as the free trials can be a pain to cancel.

Only if you have joint accounts.

Only if they have a joint financial product together (e.g. a joint bank account). See Martin's End of Year 2010 Quiz.

or if they've ever applied for a joint financial product, even if they were declined, didn't take it out, or since closed the joint account, they will remain linked and treated as such unless they both go through the Notice of Disassociation procedure with all three credit reference agencies.

Having done this myself I can speak from experience in saying even when Call Credit, Equifax, and Experian say they've done the NOD, they hadn't and it took nearly six months in all with repeat correspondence from myself and the other party before it was done properly.

Definitely worth checking your wifes credit report and the Financial Associates section of both yours and hers along with her repayment history.

    Good luck! :o

  • They might just have decided you already have enough credit available. If I might ask, with a take home pay of 4k why do you not just pay off £1300 rather than paying interest or a BT fee?

Awww, that’s a shame the post was removed, but good old zx81 has retained it for the classic that it truly is. I usually click the spam button for these idiots, but the site is good entertainment value. Right from the picture of the whitest young lad I have ever seen, even though he says about himself:
My name is Abdul Geele. I’m 21 years of age and from African decent. I love spending time with my family, friends and all my business partners. I love to learn new things but what makes me happy is changing the lives of others.”
Who could resist an offering such as:
“Everyone has had a problem at one time or another of not have the necessary funds they need to deal with an emergency. When sometime happens, they then have to borrow from friends and family or even go to the bank to try to obtain a loan.” – ermm, what??
And of course, the classic: “Moths of searching have led me to Myshoppinggenie”

Ha, ha, ha, ha......oh you spammers and yahoo, yahoo boys with your moths of searching do cheer me up. Oh, and the music got me dancing too.

Oh yeah, back on topic. Oooh, perfect score of 999, didn’t realise they were part of MBNA, won my own home, jumped a few times (eh?). Look back at Mr/s L’s erm....only other post from back in the day https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/comment/11997811#Comment_11997811
“I'm pretty good with my finances now”
Ahhh, VAT may be 20%, but 2011 is working out to be full of humour so far.

I only checked the Experian one, but at £5.99 for the score I would hope it was reliable?

To answer you questions, havent moved for 4 years, not sure what my available credit is but I do use over 13k on cards plus 3k overdraft. I appreciate this is high, but it was much higher when I got my last 2 interest free cards as, being the good reformed money saver I am now I have been reducing them every month :) I also earn more now than when I last did this so I assumed I would qualify again quite easily, hence my original post.

Good call, although I suspect her credit is sound - she doesnt however have any cards or loans, just a small overdraft.

I will pay this off tomorrow and transfer some debt onto that card so it becomes interest free on the new deal. I clearly should have revealed my total debt to put that in context so apologies for that.

Thanks for the replies folks, appreciated.
