HELP!!! EON Prices

Options
I am a EON customer and live in a 2 bedroom purpose built flat in Essex. I live alone but do have underfloor heating! :(
EON didnt invoice me for the first 14months of me living here due to a computer glitch! Then I got a bill for £3000 approx. After querying the bill I decided to look elsewhere but as I owed them money thay said I cant move due to having a debt with them. Is this still true?

They say that as I have two meters one that just does the heating non peak times alot of other suppliers cannot deal with me. Also EON cant put me on a cheaper tariff due ot type of meters but even so I am being charged alot of money compared to other people i know I seem to be stuck between a rock and a hard place unless someone knows differently. Here is what im being charged and now with the heating swtiched off im still getting bills for £367 a quarter!
Charges

Normal primary units used 264 kWh at 21.13p each
Normal secondary units used 732 kWh at 10.2p each
RHT Normal units used 2828 kWh at 8.78p each
Standing Charge 107 days at 17.58p per day

Any advice would be welcomed!

thanks

  • I don't mean to sound rude, but did you not think it strange not to get a bill for over a year? I agree, £3000 is a huge amount of money, but if you had queried it earlier it would not have been so much.

Are you sure your heating is off, you have consumed 2828 heating units, way more than a water heater would use.

    Hi Markyboyster

From the info posted, it looks as though you have a Restricted Hour Tariff (RHT) metering set up. Not sure which one in particular though.

This type of set up is a bit of a hybrid and tends to be found in properties with particular types of heating arrangements. Under Floor Heating would certainly come into this category.

An RHT meter allows cheaper rate electricity at certain times during every 24 hour period for water and heating requirements.

These set ups are run off two meters. One records normal usage (lights, washing machine, TV, etc); whilst the other (RHT) records off peak water/heating usage.

To do this, the RHT meter will be wired directly into the water/heating circuits at your property.

Given the speciality of these set ups, I'm afraid, tariffs are very limited. Also, you will not be able to find your current product on the comparison sites.

I believe some of the other suppliers do offer tariffs but you will need to speak to them individually to see what is available.

Regarding the debt, do you still owe £3000 or has part of this been paid back via a payment arrangement?

If you still owe a considerable amount, it's likely we will block a switch. However, if this sum has been reduced and you are willing to re-pay the balance over a reasonable amount of time through a Direct Debit, we may not block the switch. You would need to ask about this.

We usually ask for any outstanding balance to be re-paid immediately once a customer changes supplier. However, as we didn't send you a bill for 14 months, you may be able to negotiate as above.

Hope this helps point you in the right direction Markyboyster. Give me a shout if you need any more info as will be happy to help.
