List of recipients for the Abyssinian War Medal?

I have a friend who researches and collects medals. He has a book with a list of Abyssinian War Medal. Unfortunately, he's just lost three years of research when his computer died (yes, he's just had a crash course in the desirability of backing up).
Basically, does anyone know of an online list of the recipients of this medal, please, otherwise someone's got a lot of typing to do!
Thank you.

Sorry, don't have a list, just a suggestion to try: http://www.britishmedalforum.com if he isn't already on it
Failing that, scan and OCR rather than type?
Best of luck!0 -
Try Arrse or Rum Ration, or contact the Medal Office at
Service Personnel and Veterans Agency (SPVA)
MOD Medal Office
Building 250
Imjin Barracks
Gloucester
GL3 1HW
and do a FOI request.0 -
Thank you, Tocsin and Fergie.
Does anyone know of a free online OCR site that works?
Additionally, do they supply FOI information in email format, rather than in printed form?0 -
You're welcome
If the forums mentioned ( +1 for Arrse from me also), don't have the info, then I would suggest another post on here in the Techie Stuff section - if your friend has the source material on paper, then there are several possible ways to get it into a usable form on computer. There may be a few questions to be asked and answered to get it sorted, though!0 -

You can submit an FOI request by any format, whether they answer in any format, I'm unsure, although I suppose you could request that they answer by email.
What's an OCR site?0 -
Thank you again, Tocsin and Fergie.
By OCR(optical character recognition) site, I was hoping that there was a site somewhere that I could submit the scanned material, where it could be processed by the appropriate software, and sent back to me in a nice usable text format.0 -
I'm not aware of any site that will do OCR for you - if there are such, I would guess that the cost is not cheap (a bit like the data recovery companies). There may be someone local with the kit to help (e.g. school or college?).
Again, people on the Techie Stuff section will almost certainly know more, but my best guess is: scan (or digital camera photo) the papers and use OCR software to get the text. I've just seen a review of free OCR software at: http://lifehacker.com/5726454/freeocr-is-a-no+hassle-scan+to+text-converter-for-windows - just for example, I haven't used it!
Hope that helps.0
