I have a partitioned harddrive. Is it possible to either get rid of the partition or increase the space on one of the partitioned drives?
Which one is easier to do?

One is as easy as the other if you have the right software. What app did you use to create the partition? It should also give you the option to resize current partitions, or delete them.
Oh....and I would get your signature checked by the site admins too. Links are not allowed unless pre-approved, and especially not if you benefit from the referral. You should remove it and contact admin for guidance.0 -
You can increase the size of one partition if you have unallocated space on your disc, if not you will need to reduce another partition. You can also remove a partition, both are easy to do, but only if you have suitable software. In the past I have used Partition Magic but you have to pay for it. I'm sure there is freeware to do this as well but I haven't used anything so couldn't recommend any. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -
Ranish Partition Manager will do this for free. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

If you go to https://www.vnunet.com and look in the downloads section they are giving away Paragon Partion Manager 2005. Ignore the time limited demo, follow the instructions and get a registration key from the manufacturers to make it fully functional.0

Hi,
My experience has been and I have partitioned many times, that its best to be able to do it either of 2 ways. First of all your best bet it to backup your main windows drive to dvd so that if you loose data you can quickly restore, then install a program such as partition magic and try to partition that way. If its a relatively easy job for partition magic like enlarging a partition without having to move any data, then a good possibility it will be able to do it easily enough, but remember the more complicated the proceedure that you set partition magic then the more likelyhood errors will occur.
As mentioned partition magic is a good program but I have found that it probably only works maybe 50% of the time, a lot of the time it doesn't finish the required job finding errors etc and thus leaving unallocated space on your drive. I feel that its essential to know the fdisk way to partition as well (that is starting from scratch thus loosing all the data on your drives) but if you have a backup of windows you can quickly restore) Do a google for the fdisk way to partition.
Fdisk seems a little complicated at first, but once you get onto it ..its easy. Even so I have had errors in my time with it (saying one cluster of one partiton was in the next partiton....whatever that means too complicated for me) but on starting partition magic it immediately recognised the problem and rightified it.
The point I'm making is that the 2 ways compliment each other, but if you go down the fdisk route make sure that you have backed up windows first to dvd with a program such as acronis true image, a link appeared earlier where to download it but I have forgotten what post its in.
best of luck.
