Clicking sound on sagate expansion drive.

Hi

I just noticed a fe wweeks ago an intermitant loud clciking sound on my seagate 1 TB expansion drive.

Anyways its all packed up now waiting to go back to them, anyone else had this probelm?

As a precision mechanical device you do get the odd duff hard drive drive from time to time. Just be sure to backup EVERYTHING you need at the first sign of trouble and download and run the low level diagnostics from the manufacturers website.

Then just get it warranty swapped out for a replacement

It was a well known issue with Seagate drives a while back:

Your drive could have just encountered a bad sector for the first time. It will probably avoid it in future and work around it.

That said, some drives respond to multiple bad sector reads by switching from DMA mode (fast) to PIO mode instead. Use your hardware manager to see if the IDE controller is still in DMA mode.

You should backup in any case.
