Help needed with router problem.

Can someone take pity on me and help me!

Basically we have a netgear Rangemax Wireless-N modem Router, with a pci adapter as well, which is plugged into pc, and then I use the wireless for the ;aptops.

My husband passed away a few weeks ago and had set all this up, I paid no attention to what exactly he was doing, but I was aware he had rewritten name of network and the password, I also knew where the password was written down, or so I thought, I went to find it so that I could use my iphone on the wifi and I cannot find it anywhere I have turned the house upside down!

What I need to know is how I go about resetting this password, and if I have to do it by using the factory reset button, what do I do about the pci adapter dh added, does it all need to be set up again? I called netgear and they want £30 to do a extended warranty!

Help I'm just so confused as to what to do!

Default way to access your router from a connected computer is:

open a internet browser and type in this address

192.168.1.1

the default username is admin
the default password is password

you can then change the wireless network name and password

-Good idea to change both to avoid your PC getting too confused over the old settings, it'll see it as a new network to connect to
-obviously when you save these settings and reboot you'll lose wireless access from the PC until you type in the new info and reconnect
-if you can connect via an ethernet cable while doing all this you son;t have the problem losing access when you make changes

-If the default login doesn't work your husband will have changed it and you'll be forced to 'hard reset' and set the router up again from scratch, this will require default settings for your particular ISP (from the internet) and your unique login and password (your ISP will have sent you a letter with this on and can tell you again if you need the info)

-in all cases the PC is unaffected an will only ever need to know the new network name and password. -it gets slightly more complicated if you keep the network name the same and change the password so I suggest you change both

Just to summarise there are 3 sets of names and passwords here
one to access and configure the router settings (defaults above)
one to enter into the router to allow it to connect to your ISP via ADSL (from your ISP if needed)
one to set in the router for the wireless network other computers need to know in order to connect to wireless (you choose these and put them into the router)

I don'tthink you need to change anything if all you want to do is connect a new device-Just go into the router settings page listed above -go to set up and then wireless settings-and you'l lsee the network key you need to set up your I-phone.

Sorry for your loss twoflower169 but your thread had galvanised me in to documenting every aspect of access and password security to our network.

As mentioned above try 192.168.1.1 or even 192.168.0.1 to access the router if that fails then it can be reset but you will need to speak to the company that supplies you with your BB as they will have the account, login and password details to access your account.
