How do they work out working tax credit

We had a meeting in work 2 weeks before christmas to tell us they where looking for 21 voluntary redundancy and they are going to have a 30 day consultation with the union. So as my working tax credit payments have been reduced i was thinking of putting my name forward as i think i would be better off on the dole but before i do i was looking for some advice.
My girlfriend ain't working at the moment due to being on maternity but when she was working this is all the money that was coming in to the house.
£145.52 child tax credit
£47.10 child benefit
Girlfriends wages for 15 hours £87
My wages for 26 hours £158.30
Working tax credit £48.64
So when my girlfriend stopped work she phoned tax credits to say that she was starting her maternity and they told her that they would sort everything out, so we then get a letter saying that i'm now going to get £67.13 a week working tax credit and my girlfriend is going to getting £76.50 a week maternity. We have had another letter now from tax credits saying that our payments are going to be reduced so as the letter was showing my girlfriend was working she phoned them up and told them that she is on maternity and she was told again that they would sort it out. We have just had a letter saying that i'm going to get £17.78 a week working tax credit. So when my girlfriend maternity runs out on 19th febuary she cannot get dole as i'm earning to much :rotfl: and we cannot get a discount on the rent or council tax as we get to much money for the kids. So the reason i'm thinking of finishing work is i got to pay £101 a week for council tax and rent so this leaves me with £75.08, so if we went on the dole we will get £102.75 a week and would still get the kids money and we wouldn't have to pay any rent or council tax and we will get milk tokens and free meals for my boy in school.
