My home and bargain's had some similar for around £15 for months now, just a couple up on a high shelf. It's worth a look - or get an old bike from a car boot sale and hacksaw the pedals off.

Before riding a pedal bike at 4 My boy had 3 balance bikes (he's huge, grew out of them too fast!) and they cost a lot more than this. He started on a wooden one when he was 2 and a bit. We couldn't find replacement 10" tyres anywhere.

His second one was from tesco direct, a metal one which cost around £40 but it had a brake, which was important for us because we live at the top of a hill. This tesco one would have lasted an average sized child until they could ride a proper bike, I think.

For his third bike we just hacksawed the pedals off an old 14" bike of our eldest's.

What I loved about his little wooden one at age 2 was it was so easy to carry about - if we went for long walks I could take the buggy, and when he got tired of cycling just put the bike in the basket of the pram until he was ready to hop out and ride it again :)
