overdraft charge

I've just logged onto my online banking (LloydsTSB) and found that they've taken £30 charge out, I looked back through my statements and I've not had any overdraft the past month so is this from longer ago now that they've changed their policy (charging £30 even if it's 1p overdrawn)
I've just called into the branch but they couldn't help as their computers were down so I'm going back later, just wanted to rant really but I always thought that if you went overdrawn then the charge would be taken monthly, always has been for me anyway! I loathe banks!!
Another thing that's irritated me is a £45 direct debit is due out tomorrow so guess who'll now be charged again!!!!!

I too had a similar problem with Lloyds (on two occasions).
When I rang to query why a £30 uod fee had been applied to my account, they said it was for period a month prior. However, they have to let you know in writing 14 days before taking out of your account. So, did you get any letter? If they did not write, they can't take it. (unlawful charges aside)
What was more infuriating - and still the subject of a battle - is that they returned a DD which would have taken me overdrawn, charged me £35 for returned DD, and then an extra £30, because, they said, technically I had gone overdrawn, even if it was for an instant on the account - not a day, I might add.
I think other suscribers need to watch this practise, as it seems they are actually charging £65 for a returned DD !0 -
I didn't get any letter, so I'll have that out with them when I pop into the branch again later! Just looked at my online statement and the last time I was overdrawn was september 11 so it could be from that, still not fair that they've just decided to swipe it now though!!
I hardly ever go overdrawn and if I do I always make sure money goes into the account on the day or the day after being overdrawn and it's always been less than £10 so I've always dodged charges but now they've changed all that, I'll have to be more careful!!:mad:Kate

I am not sure if people are aware of this 'little change' that Lloyds introduced (quietly) about 2 years ago.
Previously, if you had a DD (or cheque) due to go out on a certain date, and funds were not in your account, they held the return until after 12.00.
This gave an opportunity for you to pay in cash on the morning of the DD, and it would be paid that day.
They dropped this. (I wonder why?). In practise, this means the cleared funds have to be in a day before your DD.0 -
I was only aware of the change of the overdraft thing because my mum told me, Lloyds (as probably many other banks) seem to like to keep things quiet, probably so they can swipe more money off unsuspecting customers!
I've just been to my branch and the computers are still down so nothing they could do unless I went to a branch further away I told her I'd pop in again tomorrow! She did say however that the OD charge would probably have been from October, when I told her I hadn't gone OD in October she looked as confused as me, I just hope I can get it sorted tomorrow!Kate
