Any pitfalls of a LLU phone line?

Hi all,

I need a phone line re-connection to my flat so that I can get BB.

Sky are LLU on my exchange and I was thinking of going with them for phone and BB as at the moment they will connect me for £10. Thereafter it is £21 pm for a 12 month contract and with the first 3 months free (and any Cashback!)

Am I correct to assume they will LLU my phone line and what are the cons of this?

Cheers for any help. Si

The inability to use override providers like 1899, 18185 and 18866.

The difficulty of 'getting away from' the LLU provider if you ever want/need to do so (very few other line rental providers will take over a LLU line directly and it is often necessary to go back to BT - free, on a 'return to donor' basis - for 12 months initially).
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

Thanks for the quick response Heinz.

I use my work mobile for all calls so no actual need to use the phone, its just for the BB.

Do Sky have to LLU the phone line, can I opt out of that?

If I had to go back to BT, free on return to donor basis, setting up with sky for £10 would still seem to be the cheapest way of getting the line reconnected. Or have I got that confused?

Thanks a lot for your help. Si

BT often reconnect free of charge if an existing line still has a dial tone but, if not, Sky's £10 looks like a winner.

I don't think Sky will allow you to opt out of their LLU - but you could ask!

Thanks very much for your help Heinz.

No dial tone I'm afraid, checked with BT and they said 127 for reconnection or 27-99 with 18 month contract and all that make 10 calls a month rubbish!

Looks like Sky it is then.

Thanks again. All the best Si

Just had a live chat with sky. They said that they would not LLU the phone line. I got them to confirm that and they did. I have saved the chat just incase. I am now going to call them to confirm over the phone.

But if you don't have an LLU connection then you will be on the dire Sky Connect service-to be avoided at all costs. and the charge is much higher for the non-LLU service too!

    Hi macman,

I may be wrong but as I am on an exchange that can be LLU'd for broadband to Sky, anyone can get this on my exchange whether they have a Sky phoneline or one with BT.

I am trying not to have my phone line LLU'd, I really want my broadband LLU'd.

Again I may have misunderstood the whole LLU scenario!!!

    Cheers Si

Yes, ADSL can be LLU'd jointly or separately from voice.

Sky originally offered SMPF where only broadband was LLU in combination with WLR voice (or indeed CPS). When they installed MPF gear they offered existing customers the choice of the voice side remaining on BT's network or transferring the whole lot to MPF LLU.
Whether they still do that for new customers or if the OP has been spun a line only time will tell.

I am LLU for BB (adsl2) and with BT for line rental but use Primus for phone and 18866 prefix
