New kitchen-getting quotes

Hi,
Just wondering if anyone has any advice or can recommend a place to order kitchen from?
We have a couple of places coming round in the next week to do a proper quote and hopefully things will be a bit clearer then!!!
Not impressed with Magnet though, went into their showroom to look at what was in the sale advertised on the TV.... would appear nothing really in the sale and the gloss units that we looked at salesperson stated that for the whole package we would be looking at 18K:eek:
I dont think he could be bothered with us really so we left and went to have a look round B&Q.....
I am also confused already- was going to go for a traditional country kitchen but hubby states he likes the coloured gloss units and that if we are going to spend all that money to at least have something that looks different to the wood ones we have now... I kind of agree with him but not sure if it is what I had imagined my kitchen to look like.... hopefully I will be less confused once I have seen the quote on the laptop....
Any recommendations concerning different companies and what they have to offer would be gratefully received....I live in Worcester, West Midlands....thanks

I would also go and speak to a local independant, they have a lot more knowledge (in most cases) than the salespeople in the 'sheds' and they will also give you a lot of good advice.
From experience, they have better quality kitchens than the 'sheds' and they are also very competitavly priced.0 -
Have a look on the wren website, dont know if there is a branch near you. Had my kitchen from them now for a good few month, white high gloss, but others available and we are still well pleased with the quality and look. Ok not the biggest kitchen just over 4X4 mtr but the price came in at under 5K with built in bosch fridge and dish washer plus the magic corners and finishing touches. Sourced the cooking appliances ourselves as the sizes available didn't suit us. We also had independant fitters fit this kitchen, which can save loads of money.
Hope this helps.0 -
we have just had a kitchen fitted - it was reasonably smooth - we onlly had problems with delivery dates and very few problems with incorrect items - but if you are prepared to stand up to their faceless customer "services" then they will respond.
The company in our case was ikea - the kitchen is fab - but we bought duropal worktops and franke sink and taps.
got it all in for a 4mx3m kitchen, old one removed, new installed, floor, tiles, electrics, sink, taps, worktops, table chairs and accessories, appliances for just over 6k!!! so delighted

What is your budget going to be Wongy and what is on the wish list - if you don't know if you want wood or high gloss, do you know what type of worktops, sink etc that you want? Appliance brands?Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Just having renovated my house I can offer some good money saving tips on kitchens..the first step is to get Moben sales muppets to come around and design the kitchen for you - the woman we had around was so arrogant and patronising, but to be fair she was an interior designer and put together a decent design. We then went around the various kitchen showrooms to find out what type of kitchen we wanted. The kitchen we wanted was from John Lewis (colour collection was the range) but we were quoted £19k + with neff appliances and quartz worktop. I then did a little digging around and found that the same kitchens that are supplied to John Lewis can be bought from a website called alarisavenue.co.uk - they'll do a design for you and run though any potential niggles. We bought our appliances and worktops independently and used a local kitchen fitter to install. All in all we've saved approx £6k....you gotta love the internet!0

That's my actual kitchen! The units that is, no longer that arrangement and I don't have all the units, it was the ex-photoshoot kitchen and I share it with a man in Darlington!
I have the American Applewood mid-height larder units, the wide drawers, the lift up wall units and the cream 400 wide units are either side of my oven. I've had it for two and half years and still want to change the cream 400s and the half lift-up so I have all American Applewood but have never got round to getting a price on it. I suspect the doors will be as much as I paid for the entire kitchen. It has John Lewis emblazoned on the drawer sides and the door hingesEverything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Had a new kitchen fitted last year, we had a look at the John Lewis kitchens at the Solihull branch which we really liked but could not afford! luckily we a local kitchen specialist who used to work at Mereway was based just down the road from Mereway's factory and could supply us the same kitchen as the John Lewis one we were after but do it for a third of the price! They have a website and would be well worth a shout.

If you are not sure then I would take a good look at lots of show rooms and magazines for style inspiration. It makes no sense to rush things.
We have bought replacement doors - cream gloss slab - for our kitchen. 7 door fronts cost less than £150 from B and Q trade. My other half is a joiner so he will fit them and a new work surface, flooring and hopefully remove a wall. Total cost is expected to be less than £1000. He has fitted loads of kitchens and in his opinion the really expensive ones really aren't worth that much more.
Also - ignore Magnet's prices, the trade prices are far, far lower. Ikea kitchens are great too - my parents and brother love theirs. Plus they have brilliant ideas for storage to take away with you.
You should find that sourcing products from different suppliers may help. Plus finding a local tradesman (With references) will probably be cheaper than getting it installed by a litchen company.
Hope all that helps.

If you want wood, and your partner wants gloss - what about this product: http://landau.uk.com/quinite-american-black-walnut/
It's actually a solid acrylic, so super shiny and glossy, but a wood type look. I got my kitchen done in this product in cream, but they bought around all the colours, and the wood version does look great. It wasn't too expensive via the independent guy I was using. There is another similar product called parapan, but its much more expensive.0
