course fee - not be asked for it yet?

I have been studying full time at college since august 2010.
I did get a letter from SAAS saying that they will not cover my course fees (around£1600).
I have not received anything since then and the college has not asked / sent a letter asking for the fees.
What should i do? My friends say i should leave it and not say anything but im worried that the college will get back to me by the end of the college year and ask for the £1600 which i will not be able to pay in one go.

You can be absolutely sure that you will not be able to collect your degree certificate (or whatever) so long as you owe the college anything.0
