BD Live???

Hello Guys, Been looking at blu-ray dvd players, and I don't quite understand what BD live is. I know it's something to do with connecting to the internet, but can someone please explain what it is and whether it's a feature worth having.

You can play extra content via the web you need some form of connection ethternet along with homeplug or possible wireless connection

My LG Bl;ue-ray play has wireless g builtin. I can play blue-ray, dvd and mkv format or stream video over a network using DNLA

BD-Live

The biggest difference between Bonus View and BD-Live is that BD-Live requires the Blu-ray Disc player to have an Internet connection to access Internet-based content. BD-Live features have included automatic firmware updates, checking each time the device is switched on to see if it has been tampered with and report the same, Internet chats, scheduled chats with the director, Internet games, downloadable featurettes, downloadable quizzes, and downloadable movie trailers.[105][106][107] Note that while some Bonus View players may have an Ethernet port, these are used for firmware updates and are not used for Internet-based content.I]citation needed[/I In addition, Profile 2.0 also requires more local storage in order to handle this content.
With the exception of the latest players and the PlayStation 3, Profile 1.0 players cannot be upgraded to be Bonus View or BD-Live compliant.[108][109][110]
• Thank you for your reply. What sort of extra content? Can you please give me some examples? I'm still very confused though. If BD live allows me to access the internet, how would I be able to do that without a keyboard/mouse?

It doesn't allow you access to the Internet. It allows Internet content to be delivered to you - such as the examples in the post above yours :)

TBH it is like DVD extras but you can look up the info while watching the film ( what film was that guy in , where was the scene shot ect ) . fun for a while , then you realise you actually just want to watch the film .
Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:
• Sounds like a real gimmick - I want a DVD player to watch a film of my choosing. If I want additional info, I'd rather use the PC.

it is really just a way to get more extras. you dont have to use bd live and not all blu ray discs have bd live included anyway. personally i have found the content to be mostly movie trailers. i believe another feature of it is you can chat with people online while you watch the movie. the only extra through bd live that i have seen so far that some may like is on the wolfman blu ray. with that you can watch the whole of the original 1940's version of the film.
to sum up though bd live should not be considered a make or break feature when buying a blu ray player.

It is a useless gimmick, not worth having. When I bought my Panasonic I was told they would be improving the cintent but no sign of that.
