Getting a Travel Insurance Refund
Comments
-
Sorry, but if you had already purchased holiday insurance, why did you purchase it again on line somewhere else.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
The Policy we purchased at the shop on further inspection wasn't suitable for our particular needs. Therefore we needed to purchase a different policy. I am still within the 14 day period, so am hoping they will refund the original Policy we purchased at the travel Agency for the original price.0

Good luck on getting anything other than the £12 refunded, I think you're going to need it...0

They sold you the policy for £12, so with a bit of luck you'll be able to get just that back, as it doesn't sound like it was part of the overall deal but an extra.
I have free travel insurance thrown in with my house insurance policy. When renewing it, I asked for a discount to have it without the travel insurance as I already had other cover. They understandably told me I couldn't as it was free anyway. Worth a try, but got me nothing!I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. Mathev,
it could all come down to what your reciepts show that you had actually paid. From the way that i read it, there could be a number of scenarios here:
1. you paid full price for the holiday, and whilst the insurance should have been £112, they gave it you for £12. In this case, as you have only paid £12 for your insurance, you will only get £12.00 back.
2. You paid for the holiday and recieved a £100.00 discount off the holiday however you then paid £112.00 for the insurance. In this case, you could get £112.00 back.
Look on the reciept to see exactly how much you have been charged (and what you paid) for the insurance. If its' the latter case above, and they say that you can only have the discount providing you take the insurance out - then they are wrong. Discounts tied to the compulsary purchase of travel insurance was outlawed years ago. If they, like i used to do in the past, have actually discounted the insurance price as in example 1, then you will only get back what you actually paid for the insurance (in this case - £12.00!)
Regards

Hi all, Thank you for your replies. I felt good this morning. So bold as brass I went into the shop and cancelled the Travel Insurance. And guess what? I received the full £112. Lesson learned? If you want a cheaper price, sometimes its good to agree (providing there's a bona fide cooling off period) to their overpriced Travel Insurance with the option of cancelling later if a better deal comes along. We also had the ace card of a valid reason why we were not fully covered by their policy.:D
Appreciated all the advice received.:T0 -
Nice one! True MSE style and proved us all wrong! Enjoy the bargain holiday.

Nice one.
I guess they must have put the discount on the holiday cost then, rather than the travel insurance cost.
And just for further info, any travel insurance sold, providing the policy 'start date' has not been reached and no claim is pending, should always have the 14 day cooling off period. I believe it is law!.
Have a great holiday.
