Strange noise
Hi, I haven't driven my car (Honda Jazz, just over a year old) for the past two weeks due to snow and ice. I took it out this afternoon, and noticed there's a banging/knocking noise whenever I use the brakes. I think it's coming from the back or underneath, but I'm not completely sure. I'm taking it into the dealer tomorrow, and it's under warranty, so hopefully it'll get sorted, but just wondered in advance if anyone had any thoughts as to what this could be? Thanks!

Rust on the discs or maybe a stone caught in the guard behind the disc.0

Thanks for the replies. It definitely only happens when I apply the brake more than a little bit. I wonder if it could be a stone, as the pavement where it was parked has a lot of lose stones on it. I was just worried it might be a big job. Could it be rust when it's only a year old? I do very low mileage: only about 1500 miles so far. I'm disabled, and need it for going to work, but can't drive for very long as it's painful. Thanks again for the suggestions.0

Hmm, no ABS. It sounds like something has got caught in it. I looked everywhere I could, but can't see anything.
Edit: and would this be the sort of thing covered under the warranty? I've not bought a new car before, so don't know what's usually covered. Thanks.0 -
Your discs start going rusty as soon as they get wet but they get cleaned every time you use the brakes. If its been stood a couple of weeks they will have a bit of surface rust(nothing to worry about) that will take a few applications of the brakes to rub off.A stone can flick up and get stuck between the disc and guard, especially with all the grit on the roads lately.Neither of these are anything to worry about really(obviously you'd remove the stone)0

have you got someone in your boot lol
i cant imagine rusty discs would produce a knocking noise they normally make a scraping rubbing grinding noise & stones normaly squeal
the only time i have heard a knocking noise from brakes was a loose caliper but on a 1500mile jazz i very much doubt its that0
