Redundant whilst on secondment?

Hi,
I wonder whether anyone could help me with a query please? I am employed at a local authority and am current on secondment until Aug 2012. My previous role is being made redundant and my manager has indicated that I may be entitled to redundancy pay. I'm not sure that this is correct as I will still be employed by the local authority until Aug 2012, so surely wouldn't I be made redundant then or my secondment extended at that point?
Thanks
Cherry

Hi
As far as I understood your substantive post is the one which will be made redundant - as this is the post you are contracted for then you would be entitled to redundancy pay for the substantive post.
I presume that you would stay employed on your seconded post until it finished - as this may be on a temporary contract not a permanent, although surely you would have the oppourtunity to go on a redeployee list of some sort? I would suggest contacting your HR Rep for a quick chat.
Hope that helps a little?Little Man born 11 March 2012 :smileyhea

Thanks Sunshine_1988. Yes it is the original post which is being made redundant. I shall check it out properly with HR tomorrow. My secondment has the chance to be extended for another 2 years after 2012, so I guess will have to see what happens!0

Presumably you will have to apply for the secondment post if it is extended, if it is the same as I thought - unless you have been doing the seconded job for more than 3 years then you have to apply for the job as it should be advertised - equality and all that
:)

To avoid dismissing someone on the grounds of redundancy, an employer should try to redeploy the person into another suitable position. They have found you an alternative, at least for the time being, and so I cannot see that you are eligible for redundancy pay whilst that situation continues.0 -
What do you want to happen?
If the current payouts are going to be reduced you may want to take redundancy now.
I would think that the fixed term secondment is not a suitable alternative even though you are currently working it unless your normal role was fixed term.0 -
Just from a common sense persective I would agree with the OP assumption. You have not been made redundant as you have been given an alternative job, and if they were not able to extend this or return you to your original post, you would be eligible for redundancy then surely!!0
