My grandma is going in a nursing home she will be self funded as she has over the £23,000 limit that you can have before paying. What i wanted to know is will i have to find bank statements out to prove what savings she has are will this only happen as she gets near to £23,000 im the next of kin so its down to me to sort things out.
Thankyou

If the fees are being paid no one will take the slightest interest in her assets.
When her assets get low - then yes, you will need to get bank statements, both to prove eligibility for assistance and possibly also to prove that no deliberate deprivation of assets has taken place0 -
ok thanks thats saved me a job we have a meeting with her social worker tomorrow, do you know if she will still be able to buy birthday presents etc once shes in the home are would it look as though she has been giving money away if you know what i mean.0

If she's been used ro buying birthday presents she can continue to do so. It won't be classed as deprivation if there is a historical pattern to her giving..................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

Does anybody know about top up fees that third party has to pay towards residential fees because my grandmas social worker has said that if we choose a home that charges top up fees we will be liable to pay it, although after reading the booklet they gave us it sounds like you only pay it if you are not self funded is this right.0

That's right - if you're self funding you pay the full fee.
You may also want to get your Grandma to appoint someone as a POA because it may help them deal officially with authorities and companies on her behalf.0 -

Yes you only have to pay the third party top up when you are receiving help from the local authority.
If it helps my MIL and FIL are being part funded by the LA and there is a £20.00 per week each top up to be paid. They pay each others top up as you aren't allowed to pay it yourself.Don't wait for your ship to come in, swim out to it.0 -

Ok thanks. i thought it must have been if you are getting funding, although it wont take long for my grandmas money to drop to where she should get some funding.0
