Paid Credit Card but not come out of account??

Hi, my problem is that I paid my credit card in December, I did this on line and have an e-mail receipt from Halifax. Unfortunately or not the money has not come out of my current account??

I spoke to Alliance and Leicester/Santander (who have the current account) who said there was no payment pending and they could not do anything as a request for payment had not been recieved. During the xmas period I had a security phone call from Alliance and Leicester/Santander checking the credit card transaction and 2 other transactions which I confirmed were all correct. The two other transactions have come out of the account. The credit card one hasn't. They advised me to contact Halifax.

I contacted Halifax who said they had recieved the money and the card was paid as far as they were concerned. They advised me to hold onto the money just in case it was taking time or had been caught up in the xmas hols.

Other transactions have come out of the account as normal and since the date of the transaction.

My question is, how long do I have to hold onto the money "just in case"? I have had a note made on both accounts stating the error as I don't want to be accused of theft/fraud but don't know what else to do apart from sit and wait? I'd like to put the money into a seperate account so I don't accidently spend it but daren't incase they take it from the current account without giving me notice (this would make me overdrawn)

If owed as long as it takes, an audit will flag it
