tax credits income question..maybe pam17

hi all..

right i am just wondering if someone could help me out with a question i have right here goes..

our tax credits are this year based on last years income of £4800 as my partner was on maternity leave the year before we deducted the 100 pound per week we are allowed to..

our estimate for this years income is £8500,i do not work due to disability,my partner is the only worker in the household,we have recieved her payslip and it says up until 31st december £9100 earned, there are 3 more paydays until the end of tax year so her income will be about £11,500 by renewal time.

will this cause a big problem if we just leave it until aprils renewal time re the difference which is £3,000 will we have an overpayment or do we get the allowance?

also if i got a job as i am looking into this with my disability advisor,i would obviously ring tax credits and tell them i am now working and adjust our household estimated income then, but if i did not find a suitable job could i just leave our claim as it is and not have to worry about an overpayment,i know the difference is only 3k but i dont know if that will cause problems.

thanks all for any help

It is probably best to contact them to provide a new estimate just in case. It's best to update your income as soon as possible if it is going to change. It may not affect your award, but not worth taking the chance.

It won't affect your award this year because of the £25k disregard, but you might start to run up an overpayment from April.

    thanks for you help...

so as long as i contact them before beginning of april i will be ok as it will not affect it until after april when the renewal starts...

i think what the best thing to do would be maybe wait and see if i find employment which i will know by the end of jan hopefully, and do the new income estimate then?
    will that be ok?

Yes. Just be sure to tell them immediately if you get a job as you may be entitled to additional elements eg disabled worker element of WTC - your tax credits this year could even go up this year!
