Worried I might be made redundant - advice please?!

Hello Everyone.
This is my first post, I usually just browse through the site for tips etc but thought I would post today.
I am very worried that I may be made redundant, I am 22 and have been in my current job for 2 years, we have been informed that our 'staff review' will commence end of Jan with a view to implement changes by end of March to beginning of April.
As I am only quite young I havent been through any of this before and naturally am very worried, we bought a house a year ago and have a £650 mortgage fixed for 2 more years which is paid out of my wage. My partner is in the process of setting up his own buisness so the savings we have will only cover his side of things - they are only forecasting bringing home what he currently brings home at the moment if that makes sense so I cannot count on his income being any higher.
I work in an office with personal assistants, although I am not classed as one - I am worried that as I am purely just classed as Admin they will see me as a bit of a spare part and think I can be done without. Also - I sometimes tend to feel like I am looked over by some of the higher up staff as just a young person who cant do much - the truth is I am very capable and often work which I have completed has been taken credit by someone else - if the staff higher up have any say so in the proposed cuts I feel this could go against me.
Also - a major concern is that as I am only 22 and have just 2 years service I wont need to be paid much redundancy - I think it is only 1 weeks pay. There are some older people in the office ranging from 35 - 59, I know a lot of people think that the older people may be made redundant but I really dont see it that way as surely its cheaper to get rid of me as I wont cost them hardly anything!!!
Hopefully when we go for our consultation thingy there may be a job in our structure which I can just 'slot' into - although failing that I have been told we will go on the redeployee list and have first shot at any new jobs - my worry there is that its a huge review and there will be lots of redeployees!
Im sorry if my first post is a bit of a rant, I am really worried and I cant seem to share my concern with anyone in the office as they arent really in the same boat i.e they have paid off thier mortgages and I really dont want to keep moaning to my partner as he is stressed enough with his new business plans.
I would appreciate any advice that anyone can offer.
Thank you.

Hi There
Thanks for the reply. I have thought about it but there really isnt much about at the moment and I dont want to be in a situation where I got a new job and then 2 months later was made redundant from that one and the previous job would have been ok.
I know it sounds silly and what I really need is a crystal ball so I could see what would happen! I think I just wanted a bit of a moan and a rant about it. I know that there is no easy solution nor a answer really.
I am just very scared and worriedLittle Man born 11 March 2012 :smileyhea

I havent a lot of time but I can help a little.
Age has nothing to do with the amount of redundancy paid.
Neither can it be a reason for redundancy
Payment is on length of service and these reasons cannot be used on its own as a reason to make one person redundant or not.
Neither can 'last in first out'
Redundancy is paid at the rate of 1 weeks pay for each year of service.
Try not to worry too much.
Good luck, come back and let us know how you get on.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

Thank you - that is very helpful to know that they cannot choose to keep someone just because it would cost them too much of a payout to let them go. I am trying not to worry - I have some qualifications which I could always fall back on if needs be and I am currently working towards a degree although funding that would be a problem if I was to lose my job.
Thank you for your advice though - I appreciate it.Little Man born 11 March 2012 :smileyhea

sunshine_1988 Try to think of the positives " you have a job " :j YOU HAVENT BEEN MADE REDUNDANT YET ?
If you are made redundant , you need to stay positive to gain re-employment .:j
I was pretty much in the same world , six months ago :o4WKS after redundancy i was back in work

Thanks - I will try and remember that
I suppose I am not the most positive of people, which I should try to improve.
Hopefully all will be ok - fingers crossed. Good to know that you found employment - well done for that.Little Man born 11 March 2012 :smileyhea

Good luck, but please note that you are correct, redundancy payments are based on age. Under 21 it is .5 weeks (capped at £380 if earning more than £380) per completed year of service and between 21 and 41 it is 1 week per completed year of service. Added to that you may also be paid in lieu of notice.
Any selection for redundancy is either on the job if it is unique or via an agreed selection process if a number of people are doing the same job. The selection should be agreed with reps or union officers.0 -
Thanks. Trying to be positive about it...they seem to be dragging it out, review meant to start late Jan, somehow I cant see it being then.Little Man born 11 March 2012 :smileyhea
