Where to go for sunny holiday in October?

Looking for suggestions please for somewhere to go for a bit of sun and sea in October. We have previously been to Majorca in October but unfortunately the weather was awful and it was too cold to go in the pool. As this will be our first holiday abroad in 3 years we would like to go somewhere that we are more or less guaranteed nice warm weather. We have 2 young children so looking for somewhere with a flight time of less than 5 hours from the UK.

Thanks in advance :D

  • We went to Maderia last October Half Term and the weather was lovely mostly 30 degrees, should have packed my bikini! Only draw back is there are no beaches. Was a great holiday though plenty to do for myself, hubby and 10 year old son and would happily go back again.

Egypt would be a good suggestion, the flight is only slightly over 5 hours, maybe 5 hours, 15 mins. It will be pretty hot though, in the 30's I would expect so not sure if that's too hot for you. I would recommend Sharm el Sheikh or perhaps Hurghada, both welcome families, and a lot of the hotels have kids clubs. It might be worth a look.
  • Cyprus is lovely and around 4and a half hours from the UK. Its lovely and hot in october - July/August are unbearably hot there.

Greece would still be warm but I would only go in the first 2 weeks of October as once you get half way through the month everywhere starts to close for the winter.

Other than that the Canary Islands are always a good bet for warmer weather that time of year.

We went to Tunisia at the beginning of November 2010. Weather was lovely and warm without being too hot like we experienced in Turkey during the summer months.

Have a look at Rhodes - south of the island - we go every year for the 1st week in October and the temps are mid 20's.

All short-haul beach destinations should be alright in October.
One previous experience of lousy weather in October shouldn't be used as a yardstick for anywhere.
If you want your money to stretch then avoid Euroland.
We've just been 3 weeks d-i-y in Tunisia, and everything was good value. Very child friendly. Flight time is about 3.5 hours.

We always go to the Lanzarote in the Canary Islands in the first week of October, and the weather is glorious! Hot but not too sickly hot for little ones.

Anywhere in the Canaries is practically guaranteed good weather in October.

  • We were in Malta in the October half term last year and the weather was lovely and warm. Nearly got burnt on one day.

Would recommend you check on TripAdvisor for a family friendly resort. The island isn't much to talk about so definitely go for an all inclusive resort and stay there and have some fun.

I have been to all these places and they are very nice with stable weather year-round: Canary Islands, Morocco, Malta and Greece. I think that Egypt might be too much if you bring your kids. I don't know how is Greece now with all the economic issues they have been going through. Regardless, you are lucky, because you will be going off-season, so wherever you pick will be more affordable and not as crowded. Have fun!
