Software for transferring music from LP, tape etc.

I am looking to transfer my old LP's and tape cassettes as well as some reel-to-reel to a digital format.

Can anyone recommend a good software package for this.

Even the consumer magazines for computing do not seem to have any recommendations.

All recommendations welcome.

Use Audacity. It's free, available for Linux and Windows and if you check the wiki, there are simple instructions for recording from tape/record, etc. You can even edit the waveform to remove clicks, pops, etc.
  • Seconded.

Audacity is, quite simply, the best piece of free software out there.

Genuinely as good as, if not better than, its commercial peers.
