child tax credit, confused!

Right, i understand most of it. Baby is under one, but what is child element and what is family element?

I cant claim wtc but get 9.25 pw of ctc. Child is nearly 2 and combined income around 26k same as last year.

Family element is one per family, child element is one per child eg if you have 2 children you'd get 2 child elements and one family element.

Family element is currently retained until income is £50k then starts being withdrawn, child elements starts being withdrawn at about £16k.

So on £26k with one child and no childcare or disabilities you won't get the child element, just the family element of £545 a year.

Next year the family element threshold is £40k then the year after the family element starts being withdrawn with all the rest.
