looking for £300 gas and £200 electricity .... lucky i have the money to pay them.....

back in september received notification that need to increase direct debit from £45 to £77 in gas and from £50 to £70 in electricity however i did not allow them as i knew i would leave soon ...

these companies retain business with constant year on year false figures for peoples usage etc and tell people over the term it balances out...... this is all lies....

now with edf will be keeping a stringent eye

Sorry if i've missed something:

They told you that the DD needed to go up and you refused the change and now you're surprised that you've ended up owing money?

If they hadn't had writtent to you about the DD going up you probably would have complained that they never reviewed your Direct Debit and let you leave having to pay off a large balance.

You should ensure that you do not accept estimated bills and always provide up to date meter readings.
