Cold Call Day

Options
Now that everyone is back to work(except me:beer:) I've had three calls this morning trying to sell me Sky TV, a "free" alarm system and healthcare and it's only 12:40pm. What delights will the pm bring, I wonder:mad:

I had one about my 'infected' pc.
kept him on the line for 15 mins pretending to do what he asked, asked him all sorts of tech questions, then asked about it working on a Mac (which I don't have) and then left him with the line of 'you need to get a real job and your mother would not be proud of you doing this' bless him, he still kept trying.
See you CAN have fun without spending money....

Are you registered with the TPS (telephone preference service)?

If yes, tell the next cold caller that you are registered with the TPS and that you will be reporting their company to the TPS.

If no, register. :) It's the official UK central opt-out point for tele-marketing. It takes 28 days to take effect but after that you shouldn't receive tele-marketing calls.

    You can register online: http://www.tpsonline.org.uk/tps/what/

We're with TPS and had 4 calls so far today. The best one seemed to be someone who wanted to give me £10,000 for home improvements which I was quite willing to accept. Sadly it turns out that if they give it me they want about £12,500 back at some point so told them to forget it and spend it on themselves instead.

    OP I know.

I went to my bank today and all the teller was interested in was selling me an updated account because I had a large amount of cash in my account.

Even after telling her it wouldn't be there very long after clearing my CC account etc, she still wanted me to have an account review.

    Bloody commission incentivised(?) bank staff...

I have had 2 "we can write your debts off" automatic messages and 1 "we can write your debts off" phone call with a live person at the other end today at work. They are so annoying, especially when your waiting for an important phone call to come though from a customer.

We don't get anything like as many as we used to since we have registered with the TPS. Got one this morning though. I asked why he was calling as we are registered with the TPS and therefore he shouldn't be calling. He told me that he HAD to call as it was his job and that I HAD to listen to what he said before hanging up! Yeah right! :D
  • If you're on TPS...

    1. Ask for the company name, the person on the phone's name and their address
    2. Tell them that you are on the TPS and they have 28 days to remove your details from their database.
    3. Just say i don't want to talk to you right now, goodbye.. then hang up

We are on TPS but we still get loads of cold callers pretending to be doing a survey or claiming to be from Sky TV checking if the system is working ( we got rid of Sky years ago) I just put the phone on the side and leave them chatting away to themselves most of the time.
