How to fix a laptop?

Options
I have a Compaq Presario 900 laptop. I bought it new from PCWorld (boo!) in Dec 02.

First the CD/DVD drive had a problem - winxp only sees it occasionally. The drive is there but I can't access it. I can live with it though.

Now, some of they keys stop working. It's the 3,4,r,t,f,g,v,b keys. When they stop working, bashing the keyboard a couple of times makes them work again.

Any ideas on fixing it? Should I give up and get a new one?

Try and get a boot disk and boot off that before resigning it to the bin, see if you can access the CD /DVD drive (will need the drivers on the boot disk) and see if the keys work in DOS mode.
There's every chance that it could be a driver issue rather than a faulty machine
