Is output set to mono? Should be stereo.
I presume this is a PC problem?
If so, right click on the speaker icon (Im on XP at minute, might be diff for vista/7), click audio, then advanced, and see if it is set as desktop stero speakers.
Also, if the sound file you are playing is set to mono, then it will only play through one speaker regardless of setting in audio properties.
Try a youtube video or something.0 -
The soundcard or output jack of the PC may be faulty, in which case the remedy is to fix it or them.
Try the speakers connected to the headphone jack of a personal stereo or similar to make sure they're working OK. Should have done this before you bought new ones.0 -

You need to eliminate the output jack, before you spend / waste any more money. You already bought new speakers and are about to buy a new soundcard.
As googler states the output jack [ female ] needs to be eliminated first.
Try your old / new speakers on a~n~other puter, if they work its the output jack.
Often times the solution is to ' fiddle and twiddle ' by a thousandth the male 3.5mm jack until to get both [ much easier done with headphones ] channels.
See the pic below [ male 3.5mm ] your output jack [ female ] has three corresponding metal contacts for L / R / Earth, if it is the output jack what is probably happening is one of the tiny and usually flimsy bits of bent spring steel has twisted out of line caused by forcing the jack in when its not precisely perpendicular to the port.

If its a realtek onboard sound chip - such as the AC97 - it is a common fault for one of the channels to go.Don't try to teach a pig to sing - it wastes your time and annoys the pig0

True but my Q&D test [ quick~n~dirty ] take's 5 minutes and costs sod all, take it next door, ask nicely, plug in, sorted because you know what is not causing the problem.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. Could be a driver issue too. As a last resort, you could try uninstalling the realtek drivers, and use the built in windows 7 driver (which work pretty well on my realtek hardware at home) after trying richies suggestion.0
