Quick question if you can advise please.

I had NCD of around 10 years but had a bump this year and the 3rd part insisted on getting the repairs via my insurance. I didn't claim for the minor damage to my car.

My renewal has arrived and has increased by £170. On the letter it says my NCD is still 5 or more years.

When I check around do I state that I had a claim or not as I had protected NCD ?

I also acquired 3 points this year also - I take it this needs to be declared or do they automatically check ?

Help appreciated. Thanks.

The claim, and the points, need declaring.

Yes, it all needs declaring, but do shop around, renewals are usually poor value.
Having 3 points and 1 fault claim is not a terrible record, so you will certainly not be prevented from shopping around to get a better deal.

When filling in the details and I state I have had a claim, do I also say that I have 5 or more years NCD as it was protected ?

Yes, you can claim the NCD (that's the whole point of protection).

So you MAY be charged more because of your fault claim but you have maintained your discount due to the protection.
Experiences vary in this regard, many people notice an increase after a claim, but some do not.

    It's 2 separate questions.

    1) Claims history?

    2) Any NCD? (Put down whatever your proof says)

You say you didn't claim for the damage done to your own car, if you had although you would have had your excess (if you have any)to pay, it would all have been just 1 claim, so maybe have been worth doing (or worth doing should it happen again)

No, excess was high (£350) - that's why I didn't claim for the £100 damage to mine.
