Samsung DVD Recorder - Gone wrong

Hello everyone,

On the 5th August I purchased a Samsung DVD Recorder (Model: DVD-R128) from Tesco.com.

I have only used it a handful of times and its worked fine eveytime although it would get a bit noisey when trying to read a disc. Tonight I have come to use it and its stuck on 'load' and will not read the disc's I have in it. Ive tried the normal things of switch on/off, change disc's tried a normal dvd and unplugging it from the wall.... problem is still happening. I've checked the manual and there isn't a troubleshooter for this problem.

I paid £128.98 for it so am not best pleased as I know it hasn't been accidently damaged or anything like that.

We want either a replacement or refund..... please can you tell me my rights as a consumer. I plan to have the boyfriend take it back this Saturday so it will be just under 3 months since purchase by 1 day.

Do you think they will just swap it outright or will they tell me to send it to the manufacturer???

Any advice is appreciated.

Cheers :D

Take it back to store with orignal recpit packaging if poss and they should replace it stright away. As it came as faulty so they can claim it back.

Tesco's are within their rights to send it off for someone to look at it and determine if it can be repaired .. it fall sinto the sequence of events repair, replace or refund. On the other hand I would have thought that they are more likely to simply replace it (even something over £100 is disposable thse days). Let us know how you get on.

For the first six months, it is up to the seller to prove that the fault did not exist at the time of purchase. you do not have to prove anything. I would expect a DVD recorder to last longer than 3 months, and would not expect fair wear and tear so early on (unless you are a serious telly addict!), so they should not be asking for a contribution towards repair or deduct money from a refund. If there is a fault, then you do not have to accept a repair or replacement if you do not want to.

    Hi.

Under the UK's own Sale of Goods Act, 1979, as amended in 1994 and 2002, the period of automatic guarantee was extended to six years on electrical goods. Nevertheless - as with so much legislation on consumer-protection - these time-periods are effectively meaningless, because a fault, and the supplier's liability for it, has to be demonstrated, and this - if it is possible at all -could be done at any time, however many years later the fault became evident. In otherwords. Have your own independent engineers report carried out (Cost about £40 and recoverable if manufactures fault)

I purchased a Samsung Digi cam after 14 months it stopped working. Dixons didn't want to know.. I got intouch with Samsung and explained.. they were very good and replaced my camera with no problems, they even paid DHL to collect and deliver back to me.

    Good luck.

Hi there, just wanted to note that we have had the very same problem with the same model of Samsung DVD recorder DVD-R128. The unit has problems reading DVD-RW disks that we have recorded, although on some occasions the very same disk will work temporarily. The unit is still within the first year warranty period and has actually only been used for a couple of months. We returned it to John Lewis where it was purchased and they have sent it away for repair. However, this could take up to 28 days, so we are potentially without a player or recorder for a month. Having seen this thread, I am now thinking this could be a design fault and if there have been many returns on this model then I feel we should be offered a replacement (or a quicker repair at the very least!)
