You can get parts at good prices from www.buypartsby.co.uk have used them and they are a lot cheaper than my local factors.

    £14:18 + VAT for Mintex.

£17:24 + VAT for EBC (standard pads)

£30:20 + VAT for EBC (uprated greenstuff pads)

The cost of fitting varies on where you live, but anywhere from £50-£75 I would think, though personally I would do them myself.

Did a quick check and eurocarparts want £31:88 for Pagid pads, though they give free economy delivery so actually less than a few quid more than buypartsby, but I prefer to use EBC pads to be honest.

My personal choice would be EBC, standard pads £20:69 all in. They are also a UK based company so no question for me, EBC every time. Though Mintex are well priced.

I think buypartsby charge for delivery, about £7 or £8, can't remember the exact cost, as been a while since I bought from them but it comes by DHL within a few days. The delivery costs the same for discs and pads, so just buying pads makes them a bit less of a bargain. Though you could also buy all the bits you need for a routine service, oil, filters etc.

Just did the front pads on the wifes Clio (48k), discs had plenty of life left.
  • Brake pads for my VW Golf are about 10->20quid a set. They take me 20minutes to change and last me 80k miles. If you need the discs changing as well, they also cost about £20 a pair and if done at the same time as the pads will litterally only add about 10minutes to the total time.

Garages usually charge a min of 1hr labour, so your looking at at least £50 for them to do it, plus they may possibly mark up the price of the parts.

Ive tried genuine dealer parts before (twice the price) and local motorfactor parts. Noticed no difference in brake performance or how long the parts actually lasted.

I've just had my rear discs and pads done at my local garage = £120 including VAT.

One thing with rear discs, is depending upon the car, some have to have the rear bearings replaced at the same time and new ones pressed into the new discs - which can add to the price. New bearings are around 10->15quid each and about 10mins job to press into the disc.
