Holiday in Northern Cyprus

Am thinking about a holiday to Northern Cyprus, probably Kyrenia.

Does anyone know if there are any direct flights into Northern Cyprus from the UK or do you have to have a stopover in Istanbul before flying to Ercan?

There are no direct flights to Ercan at all, all must stop somewhere in Turkey first but many people, particularly after the failure of Turkish Cypriot Airlines last summer, have discovered it can be as quick to take a direct flight to Larnaca and then take a car north, many operators are doing this for summer 2011

My parents have been going for at least 15 years - last summer they flew directly to Larnaca and then had a drive to the north coast which took about 90 minutes.

This is a much better option than going via Turkey - they were left stranded for three days about 8 years ago when the North Cypriate airline aircraft had a mechanical failure and they had no other way of leaving.

If you do go find the local bars and restaurants - tourist bars are springing up and they will rip you off.
