Of course I haven't bought anything, although I still have wrapping paper and present tags from this year (actually from Christmas 2009...) and my decorations last several years (so also from yonks ago)

I haven't actually bought anything but do still have cards, wrapping paper and tags from 2009. Didn't need to buy any for Christmas 2010. Am hoping to get out to the shops this week to see if I can find anything which is massively reduced for next Christmas.

  • Although I have done quite a bit for Xmas 2011 I have noticed that some "sale" prices on cards at present are considerably higher than other shops charged for similar quality (even same printer in some cases) cards before Xmas 2010.
Yes, there will be inflation before Xmas 2011, yes, VAT has since risen but it is always "buyer beware"

Bea; in my book the fact that you (?grossly) overbought in 2009 means that you HAVE already bought for next Christmas.
IMHO the only matters for consideration are:
--is the storage space costing you money? (I doubt it unless you bought expensive plastic boxes for storage)
--are your family fed up with seeing the same old stuff coming out year after year? (Somewhere I have a streamer (damaged) from the late 40's/early 50's!)
--did the purchase mean a higher overdraft / credit card charge? If yes have to factor that into the original cost and hence savings though I suspect you are well ahead.

    Mortgage-free Glee!
Absolutely. Tesco finest wrapping paper for 50p a roll will do birthdays as it's plain gold and silver and we've got about 20 rolls lying from Crhistmas 2009 which will get used up. The body shop sale with the various codes and free delivery worked out to £180 for 50 gift sets of various values which leaves us with just the presents for close family to pick up and those invariably involve the latest computer games so no point buying anything of that ilk just now. Most of the sales have been dreadful this year although I'm told a lot of final reductions have kicked off today.

    Cheers,

    Billy

Well...I've got a few bits...but only 'cos they were in a sale...and it would be silly not to. I also bought some bows/ wrapping paper/ cards/ christmas crackers...again because they were less than half price.
  • hell yea. i have bought loads of wrapping paper, gifts for friends( me 2you bears- were half price) cards for friends and some family, decorations (75% off) they the exact same things id have to buy next december so id be stupid to pay full price for them then.....:j
