No JSA paid

Hi, I was hoping to get my facts straight before I go to the JCP tommorrow.
My partner was unfortunately made redundant on 10th Dec, and as far as he was aware followed all relevant protocol and went to the JCP to sign on, was given his little plastic wallet with info etc and told to return 13th Jan for his next signing on day. Unfortunately his advisor was not particulary helpful and could not give him a day when he could expect his JSA payment or how it is calculated etc and the direct gov website is somewhat too general in advice.
Its now 3rd Jan and he has not recieved any JSA at all, is it due to the xmas period or does it seem that there is a blip? Luckily he has been offered a job over the hols which starts tommorrow but as their offices have been closed he been unable to inform of this, so seeing as i work just round the corner from the JCP I have been entrusted with the task of handing in his documents so I would appreciate any info that would be of any help before i accuse them of not paying up lol!
Thanks

  • The christmas rush can mess things around in there. See most people claiming and processed would have received a double payment sometime just before christmas to cover the fact that the JCP is closed.

You say you are his partner, if you are currently living together, sharing finances and expenses etc, that could have an impact on his claim, and he may not be entitled to anything.

If he is entitled it is more than likely its just processing thats taking its time. He would be owed about 2 weeks worth of money at this stage

I would politely inform them he has a job, but has received no benefit payments yet, and hopefully they will help out and get the money owed through.

Can't help re job centre, but tell hubby congratulations on the new job xx
xx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx
  • Thanks for that, had a feeling it was due to xmas, he is/should be claiming I think its contribution based JSA as I earn too much for anything else and i know they havent asked for my details or assessed me (he was unfortunately in a similar position last yr and was able to claim this then). Hopefully I will be able to ask on his behalf as I doubt he will be able to make it there now (though thats a good thing!). And I will be as calm and polite as possible, as unfort the lady who dealt with his initial claim was extremely rude and ignorant and told him that if he wants any help with training to stay off work for 6 months! He didnt tell me what else she said as for a typical manly bloke he was extremely upset and disheartened after his meeting. But each to their own we all have bad days!
mum2one thanks for the congrats, I am very proud of him for reacting to his redundancy the way he did, lets hope this one is more secure!xx
  • Whenever I've had a problem with payments I've always been told to phone the call centre as the local job centre staff don't deal with that kind of thing so it might be worth phoning first to avoid a wasted trip.

Also, I signed on the 10th of Dec and received my money on the 15th. I had to sign again on the 24th and got that money fine the following Wednesday too. So payments have been made in December but the late payments may be due to them still processing the claim. You usually get a letter sent out to you detailing how much you've to get and what it's for when they have processed the claim so if you've not got that yet then it may not have been done, still, it's a long time to be waiting. Congrats to your hubby on getting the job, at least he's not had to deal with the jobcentre for very long :)

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
I signed on on the 17th (new claim) and I've not had any payments either yet, so I think it's all down to xmas.
