Why would you pay £8 for a pair of fleece socks? as previously pointed out Primark £1.50
Because perhaps they are better quality and last longer than 2 weeks?
Because it's a Bristish based company that perhaps (perhaps?) doesn't use child labour or dirt cheap labour i.e. exploiting workers in a developing country?

On the subject of Primark socks... I've got a 2 pairs of chunky thermal ones that I've had for about 3 years and stll going strong.
Their 'everyday' socks however just aren't big enough for my feet.
Also the arms and legs of their clothes are too short, they clearly think all their customers are 5'1''Mum of several with a twisted sense of humour and a laundry obsession

I worked outdoors for several winters in steel toe-capped boots, and bought a pair of these socks as I was fed up with having constantly numb toes. mmmmmmm...toasty feet

I got some heat holders for Christmas. They are brill, much better than any other slipper socks I have seen. As another poster has said they are available from Sports Direct a bit cheaper than some other places (but I dont know if they are the cheapest).YNWA
