Video playback problems with Windows XP

I've recently upgraded my OS from Windows ME to XP. Now, when I try to play a video through Window Media Player the playback keeps stopping and starting - it'll play for about three seconds, freeze for about three seconds, play for about three seconds, etc.
I never had this problem before with ME. I suppose XP could be putting more of a strain on my system than ME, but everything else seems to work fine. Does anybody have any thoughts why this might be occuring? TYIA.

What is your PC spec.. It might be a bit of a strain on it..0

It is fairly (ha) old - Duron 1100, GeForce3, 512 Mb DDR RAM - so that may well be the case. If so, I'll have to look around and see if I can pick up a few bits and bobs (processor & GFX card most likely) quite cheaply.0

try vlc player from https://www.videolan.org/vlc and see if the same happens,0

Try opening Media Player then, tools, options and then performance and put the slider to half way, that "may" help.0

Tried this and it didn't make any difference.spacker wrote:Try opening Media Player then, tools, options and then performance and put the slider to half way, that "may" help.
This wasn't bad, but one or two stutters.albertross wrote:media player classic is another lighweight media player you could try..

Looks like vlc player is the best option as present, but that still leaves the long term problem which may only be solved with money.
Thanks all.0
