If you're on JSA, you can't have much money for socialising and sports, can you?

    He's not on JSA....
  • I am not claiming any benefits, I was doing some temping work in December and am also working tomorrow so I think it is fair to say I want to be working!
It is just I would prefer the job to be commutable from where I am currently based.

That's fine then - it's your choice if the ups outweigh the downs

Not sure why you're so hesitant then. You admitted it isn't easy to find a job.

I got offered a job in York (400 miles away), and had accepted. Would have meant leaving my girlfriend / friends / family, but would have been for long-term benefit. Luckily I got something else more local and ultimately didn't have to make the choice.

It sounds like you need to decide between being near your friends and working job-to-job, or moving away and progressing your career.

Maybe you need to think about what you want, maybe making a sacrifice or 2 is what you need to do, you can give the job in kent a try and if it dont work out then move back if neccessary

if i had no ties where i am id want to give it a shot, it would be a new experience for me

kent would be ideal location for nipping over to france and ideal for getting to london

A local social scene can change as peoples lives move on.

How many can put you up for the weekend visits to save having 2 places.

Where in Kent handy for london?
Would any friends be able to visit you?

Have you thought about being a lodger during the week, Monday night - Thur night, drive up Monday morning, drive back home Friday evening. You may even be able to arrange more flexible hours, eg an extra hour a day so you can get off at lunchtime on Friday.

Some people I know charge £30 a night so much cheaper than renting a whole place or hotel

This would allow you to keep on going home for the weekend until you had made a few more contacts in the new area and could then look for something more permanent?

Sounds like you've already decided you don't really want to move! So, stay where you are and remain unemployed (temping presumably), tell the prospective employer you're withdrawing your application - no point in wasting their time further.

Is that what you wanted to hear?

Personally, I don't see what your dilema really is, if offered the job you can make a life in Kent and if you really don't like it then you resign and go 'back home'. You've no real ties to where you are now that can't be forged elsewhere, no kids, no mortgage and I think there's some life in Kent!

Remember, this opportunity may not present itself again, do you want to look back in a few months and wish you'd given it a chance.

    Good luck with your decision.

Maybe that poster meant 'Where in Kent?' 'Handy for London?'

Kent MUST be handy for London because my cousin lives in Kent and commutes to London;)
