I currently have Microsoft Money 2004 and I have a new laptop that I would like to transfer it to. I haven't got the original disk and its an old though still really good piece of software so I am wondering whether its best to get shot of it completly and move onto something newer?
If I get something else, can I transfer the 6 years of financial data I have on Money? This is quite important to me, if I can't do it I am likely to stick with Money. If I get a newer version of Money, I assume I can migrate all the existing data?
Please help!
Thanks

There have been quite a few people commenting on here that they still use the older versions of Money - and if it does what you want and you know how to drive it, why not?
If you look on Ebay, you can find original CDs for it, or for MS Works 2004 which includes it, for around £20, with no data migration issues.

Yes, I am now watching copies of Money 2004 and Works 2004. I still think its great and am happy to use it for now.
Closed, I think Sunset is replacing Money Plus, not quite the same as what I have but thank you!

From Wikipedia (about Sunset):
I'm pretty sure I've read something similar elsewhere, but can't find it just now.It can convert & open older versions of Money; unfortunately, it can't for non-US versions."The trouble with quotations on the Internet is that you never know whether they are genuine" - Charles Dickens0 -
It says it in the link I posted

If you can't get Money working (I failed miserably to get any version working in Windows 7 64 bit), the Banktree is a good option. It's not as pretty but imports Money files cleanly and does what I need.0

I use, have used, and continue to use Money 2004. Various iterations from the old K6 CPU to 64bit Win7 without any problems whatsoever.
You don't need ' sunset ' the 2004 copy will continue to work fine, its just not supported any more. Ref #1 you will not be able to get a newer version of money, and have not been able to for four or five years already.
- you should [ if its important to you ] use the file / archive function in addition to any routine backup you may do, to .. .. .. more than one medium
- any reinstall / new install should be done with the exact same version number, its notorious for refusing to import old archives just one number point different
- regarding UK banks and auto cheque number downloads etc, all you need to do is tell it to look for an update at the very second it finishes its MSI, and it will continue to work fine !Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. Thanks for your advice everyone. I downloaded Sunset but I can't import my 2004 money files. And I don't have the original disk.
I am using Win 7 so might have a look at Banktree, thank you for the suggestion! So even if I have the Money 2004 disk it might not work?

I explained that you almost certainly will not be able to import your stuff in any like for like way, into anything other than your own existing [ version number ] copy of MMoney.
Additionally I said I use Win7 and it works fine in bothe x86 & x64.
When you have trialled other software, if you need to you can always [ revert again ] use your existing MMoney in win7Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion.
