A bit more information would help.
Ezactly what is your tax code? Have you got in touch with the tax office?0 -
hi
my tax code on wage slip just says BR
I have rang tax office twice and they say I can't do anything its down to my company !
ps bank transfer comes up as payment from my old employee D.H.L....I would love to be a Travel Agent :j0 -
I take it this is your only job?
I can't see why it is down to the company unless the tax office has issued a code and the company is not applying it.
Get back onto the tax office and ask them to do their job and issue a tax code. If you can get hold of your employer's PAYE reference number (usually found on your payslip) that would help the tax office to issue a code.
Can you go into a tax enquiry office and speak to someone face-to-face?0 -
Tax office say its down to my company to apply the correct code, I explained I am on emergency tax and have on several occasions sent off p45's and 46's....There not interested. I think its my company at fault. they are useless over half of the south west region have been under paid and still on emergency tax...I am going to email the M.D this evening....Did the bank have legal right to refund my wages back ?
thanks for adviceI would love to be a Travel Agent :j0 -
Technically the emergency tax code is 503L and would have a Week 1 or Month 1 suffix as well.
You might find this interesting to read.

BR is basic rate and really only meant for occasions such as a second job although some firms use this wrongly.
From the sound of it, the tax office may have issued a code and your employer isn't using it. Have you ever had a tax code notice from HMRC?0 -
thanks jem
this is my only job.
will get back on the phone to tax office tomorrow.

503L is a standard tax allowance - this gives £5000+ of tax free income over the year.

It is not wrong.
503L is the standard code AND the Emergency Code.

If you want to make a point, don't do it in teeny letters!
Fair enough, I was wrong.
