CC Application

An application has been made for a CC and the paperwork has been sent through the post however i've found a better one with my bank, as an existing customer.

Am I okay to go ahead and apply for the one with my bank and simply disregard the other application or do I need to cancel the first somehow?

You should cancel the first one if there are any fees incurred.

The first Credit Card provider would have already searched you credit files, and that search would remain on record regardless of whether you proceed with the application or not.

You can apply for the card from you bank while proceeding with your current application, as it now would not make any difference to the outcome of the application with your bank. Indeed if your bank refuses your application you at least have the first card to fall back on. If you are accepted by your bank you can choose whether to keep or close the first card. However if these are the only credit cards you've got there is no harm in keeping both.

Don't cancel anything, before you have the second application safe in the bag. You might get declined with another application in a few days. The bank will see your very recent credit search and it will look as you are desperate for credit (they cannot know, that you intend not to proceed with the previous application).

The card I am looking at is with the same bank, just a better one as once I logged in to banking I saw their offerings for existing customers. I guess I'll call them and see if they can change the card type.
