I've seen a coffee table on Ebay, the item is collect in person only, but there is a charge of £4 on this???
How can they charge for collect in person?
I've never heard of this before, but I'm only a casual Ebayer: is this common?

Not common but it is allowed.
Play them at their own game though and make sure if you do buy that you pay in full, including the £4 by paypal before you colelct. Do nto do them the favour of paying in cash.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I think this is really cheeky! The item already has a starting price of £30!0

I have seen this before and i asked about it and i was told someone has got to get the item ready and my staff don't work for free.0

            Don't buy from them then!0

Either don't buy it, or do as Soolin says and pay via paypal. That way you're covered.A woman is like a tea bag- you never know how strong she is until she gets in hot water.

Would agree that I would not buy it either, however I do like soolin's suggestion just to be awkward.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

I consider myself very laid back and amenable but anyone getting silly with me brings out a very childish streak in me.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Me too, I am very stubborn and I will not bid on the item because of this
It is not a business selling the item and I think its just fee avoiding in this case. I know its inconvenient waiting in for someone to collect, but you can specify a time and give a 30 minute window. I had to wait in all Friday night once for someone to collect some oak wood floor that they won off me for 99p! Its give and take on ebay!0

I've seen it a few times (but have been looking at larger items which are collection only so perhaps that's why). I had always assumed that a) it was just a way of getting a bit of extra cash in and b) perhaps a misguided idea that if you're paying to collect, you're actually going to turn up? I don't think it would deter those who had no intention of following a transaction through, but can see the logic behind it that it might (kind of like having the death penalty stops people going out and murdering logic!).0
