Hi all,
Have recently got a 6 month old kitten from CPL. Am new to owning a pet so am very much a novice. When i got the kitten had free insurance for a month and now need to get my own insurance.
Looking through the thrads am ggetting very confused with all the different extra and benefits.
Think i have narrowed it down to either Petplan or M&S seem to be good but other threads saying their not that good. Am very confused ??
Seems that it is best if I get an insurance cover that will have a yearly amount that can be paid out but for the life of the condition, if one was to arise.
thanks in advance

Yes, the crucial part with any pet insurance policy is to ensure that the insurer will pay out for ongoing care. Some insurers will only pay out for a year's worth of care/treatment, after which you're on your own. If your pet were to develop diabetes, this could prove very costly in the long run and changing insurers will not help as pre-existing conditions are not covered in a new policy.
I have two policies with Bank of Scotland and one with Aviva. I cannot fault either of them so far, although I do plan to switch to switch the two BoS policies to Aviva in the future as I will get a discount being an existing customer. Aviva cover me up to £6,500 per year on my policy.
The extras/benefits can be useful but in the majority of cases I wouldn't be swayed by them. Paying out if your pet dies "early" is nice and all but I would be far too preoccupied were that to happen to bother claiming on that. Liability cover is probably the most useful one just to protect you in case your pet does something that causes damage to another person's property or injury to someone else.
One extra that is nice but isn't generally available is dental coverage. Most insurers will only cover dental work needed if it was the result of an accident. Simple cases of tooth decay are not covered. However, if your vet offers any form of six-to-eight month checkup service dental problems can be spotted early before they become an extremely costly problem.0
