Hi my pup has just chewed through the cable of my new laptop (it's a Packard Bell) My OH has but a 'block' in the cable to try and fix it, the box half way up the cable now lights up when plugged in, but there is no power getting to the laptop, and it wont switch on!
It is fully charged aswell.
Please help!

The two should not be related: If the laptop is fully charged (how do you know?) then unplug the power and try to switch it on. If the power adaptor has a light then it is probably should charge.
The usual solution to all things laptop, is to remove the battery completely whilst not plugged in and then put it back on and see what happens.0 -

That depends upon whether the puppy chewed through the AC mains cable or the DC cable. I'm guessing the latter given that the puppy is still around (hopefully) and I'm hoping that the husband has ensured that the 'block' has been connected with the correct polarity ...There's love in this world for everyone. Thanks for your replies! I have now used my photo-frame charger and the laptop has switched on, only thing is that output is 19Volt and original laptop charger output was 9.5 Volts. Will everything be ok?
Thanks!
oh, puppy is fine! but i'll be extra careful from now on!0 -
no , 19.5 volt and 9.5 volt are different things

You've had the sensible answers - now I ask why you would want to switch on a puppy? :rotfl:addicted2shoes wrote: »Puppy chewed through laptop cable, now it won't switch on!

Photo frame may not fry the laptop, depends on the Amp of the charger, normally 1 Amp where lappy charger is 3 - 4 amp. But not advisable to use any other charger than a dedicated laptop charger.Mansion TV. Avoid at all cost's :j0

Just get a new lead from ebay - usually £10-£20. Easiest solution all round.

I wouldn't advise continuing to use the photo-frame charger. Either get a replacement charger of the correct voltage and polarity, capable of providingthe same current (A or mA rating) as the old one, or get someone who knows what they are doing to repair the old cable (assuming the cable is the only thing that's damaged). There's love in this world for everyone.
