Barclaycard no longer do upgrades it seems !

Tried to do a upgrade to a different barclaycard and got this email, which is daft because now I would have to open a new account, close down the other, set up a new direct debit etc, where before I would have simply had a change of card. The email itself looks a bit cut and paste (Thank you for your email is repeated twice).

I regret to inform you that we are unable to upgrade your account as we don't have the functionality to upgrade anymore present.
Thank you for your e-mail.

There are various ways in which you can apply for a alternative Barclaycard account.

:- On-line over the Barclaycard website: www.barclaycard.co.uk

:- By phone on 08457 660 758

:- Or you can complete an application form which can be obtained from any
branch of Barclays bank.

Presumably they are trying to generate new business and get people to sign up new cards?

Any of the cards I look at on Barclaycard website - it states:- Don't already have a Barclaycard

So do they have the same rule as Capital One know. Close card down and re-apply.

No you don't need to close down your account to apply for another barclaycard.
You can have 2 or 3 barclaycards if you really want to, but won't recommend it TBH, normally 1 is sufficient.

Have you tried to cancel?

Retentions will have more authority to change APRs and Card Types than Shishir Joshi from Bangalore.
